Educational Housing District Law

In 2002, the City of Philadelphia passed what is commonly referred to as the Educational Housing District Law (EHDL). The law presents requirements and regulations for all Educational Housing Districts, including the neighborhoods surrounding Saint Joseph’s University. Among other stipulations, this law states that no more than 3 unrelated persons may live in the same dwelling unit. For more information click here.

Two-Year Residency Requirement

Saint Joseph’s University requires that all students live in University housing their freshman and sophomore years. In cases of extraordinary financial or medical need, students can request for exceptions to this requirement.  Students who are granted an exception must reside at home with a parent or legal guardian.  Requests for an exception must be submitted in writing to the Housing Agreement Review Committee, c/o the Office of Residence Life, and include supporting documentation.
